[0:00] <gleam> do you get it whenever you do anything with rgw? or just when you upload something?
[0:01] <gleam> e.g. can you just get / and get an xml response?
[0:01] <t4nk777> I'm using toms3 to test rgw
[0:02] <t4nk777> I can list the buckets, but I can't put a file

[0:22] <loicd> what would be the easiet way block the creation of PG on a OSD (or all OSD) ? just for a short while, to protect a package upgrade.
[0:22] <sjusthm> loicd: what problem are you trying to avoid?
[0:24] <loicd> I'm trying to work around http://tracker.ceph.com/issues/9153#note-13 so paralell upgrade test pass from firefly to master.
[0:24] <loicd> sjusthm: ^
[0:26] <loicd> so I guess I'm trying to find a command that would block the creation of a PG which loads the erasure code plugin so it does not happen during the upgrade.
[0:26] <sjusthm> ugh
[0:26] <sjusthm> there isn't one
[0:26] <sjusthm> stopping the osds would be your best bet
[0:32] <loicd> :-)
[0:34] * dmsimard is now known as dmsimard_away
[0:38] * rendar (~I@host247-177-dynamic.55-79-r.retail.telecomitalia.it) Quit ()
[0:40] <sjusthm> could we adjust firefly to load all plugins on startup?
[0:44] * ninkotech (~duplo@static-84-242-87-186.net.upcbroadband.cz) has joined #ceph
[0:44] <loicd> sjusthm: that's the plan. Ho... you mean not trying to work it around. Ok.
[0:44] <sjusthm> ?
[0:45] * PerlStalker (~PerlStalk@2620:d3:8000:192::70) Quit (Quit: ...)
[0:46] * hasues (~hasues@kwfw01.scrippsnetworksinteractive.com) Quit (Quit: Leaving.)
[0:47] <loicd> I mean loading the plugins on startup is the right fix. I was planning to do that on master. But that's won't fix the parallel upgrade from firefly. However, if I backport the fix to firefly, the next firefly version will do that and the problem will disapear. Not disapear for real but will no happen in the teuthology tests. And on real clusters the odd of this problem happening are so low that it's probably not worth fixing. Am I making sense sjusthm ?
[0:48] <loicd> s/no happen/not happen/
[0:48] <kraken> loicd meant to say: I mean loading the plugins on startup is the right fix. I was planning to do that on master. But that's won't fix the parallel upgrade from firefly. [17:08] <infernix> is there any usage documentation on a federated radosgw setup?
[17:08] <infernix> i've been looking and looking but apart from the configuration guide it seems there is nothing
[17:09] <infernix> i can't find anything on how to create a bucket in a multi region setup where I'm only syncing metadata
[17:09] <infernix> it appears to me that you must create users AND buckets in the master region and that you *can't* create buckets in the secondary region at all
[17:10] <infernix> but there isn't any API call to actually specify the region according to http://ceph.com/docs/master/radosgw/s3/bucketops/
[17:10] <infernix> the only parameter is x-amz-acl
[17:11] <infernix> so if metadata is synced from master region to slave region, how am I ever going to create a bucket that can be written to in the slave region??

[17:14] <mgarcesMZ> in the conf: osd pool default size = 2
[17:15] <mgarcesMZ> if I shut down 1 node, and wait for cluster status to be clean, and then, shutdown another node, I lose access to my cluster?
[17:16] <Sysadmin88> you have test nodes, have a go :)
[17:17] <mgarcesMZ> I did that test
[17:17] <Sysadmin88> iirc ceph will stop before compromising data

[17:17] <Sysadmin88> then you have your answer
[17:18] <Sysadmin88> add your 2nd node back in, does the access return?
[17:18] <mgarcesMZ> yep
[17:18] <mgarcesMZ> any other node
[17:18] <infernix> mgarcesMZ: look at "osd pool default min size"
[17:18] <mgarcesMZ> infernix: I was thinking that exactly??? if I set it up to 1??? I still can access my data
[17:18] <mgarcesMZ> but with a BIG risk
[17:18] <mgarcesMZ> correct?
[17:19] * ashishchandra (~ashish@49.32.0.239) Quit (Quit: Leaving)
[17:19] <Sysadmin88> you want to risk your data?
[17:19] <infernix> you should be able to allow reads
[17:19] <infernix> min_size is the minimum copies to allow writes
[17:19] <mgarcesMZ> ah
[17:19] <infernix> if min_size = 2 and there is only one copy up, you should be able to read
[17:20] <mgarcesMZ> what about ???osd pool default size = 2?????? what does it tell me?
[17:20] <infernix> it will make 2 copies of your data
[17:20] <mgarcesMZ> in seperate hosts
[17:20] <mgarcesMZ> correct?
[17:20] <infernix> that depends on the crush map, but generally yes

[17:21] <mgarcesMZ> Sysadmin88: that I dont want
[17:21] <infernix> study it, it's important. the default in the crush map is one copy per host.

[17:21] <Sysadmin88> the whole point of ceph is no single point of failure (if you carry it on the entire infrastructure)
[17:22] <mgarcesMZ> so suppose this
[17:22] <mgarcesMZ> 2 MON, 2 OSD (4 different hosts)
[17:22] * kalleh (~kalleh@37-46-175-162.customers.ownit.se) Quit (Read error: Operation timed out)
[17:22] <infernix> you need a quorum, so uneven number of mons
[17:22] <mgarcesMZ> osd pool default size = 2 and osd pool min size = 2
[17:22] <mgarcesMZ> oh
[17:22] <mgarcesMZ> so
[17:22] <mgarcesMZ> 3 MON, 2 OSD
[17:22] <mgarcesMZ> thats ok?
[17:23] <mgarcesMZ> and I can give weight to MON, correct?
[17:23] <Sysadmin88> 4 hosts but only 2 OSDs? i would hope you had more OSDs
[17:23] <infernix> 3 mons + 4 hosts with 2 osds each will work. the default recommendation is to do default size = 2
[17:23] <infernix> sorry
[17:23] <infernix> default size = 3
[17:24] <infernix> because if you have default size = 2 and one copy is invalid, it cannot know if the remaining copy is valid
[17:24] <mgarcesMZ> ok, so imagine this scenario
[17:24] <mgarcesMZ> I need to storage 500GB of data
[17:24] <mgarcesMZ> instead of creating 2 OSD with 500GB
[17:25] <mgarcesMZ> i can create 5 with 200GB each
[17:25] <mgarcesMZ> correct?
[17:25] <mgarcesMZ> than I can do the default size = 3, and the min = 2
[17:25] <mgarcesMZ> if I lose a node, it will balance the data missing, to another node?
[17:26] <infernix> if you have 3 copies you need 3*(your data size) in raw storage
[17:27] <infernix> 5*200=1000, you need 3*500=1500
[17:27] <infernix> if your data is not critical you can do default size=2
[17:27] <mgarcesMZ> its critical
[17:27] <mgarcesMZ> I have to test how much latency we have to the disaster recovery
[17:28] <mgarcesMZ> so I can have 2 in main datacenter and another 1 in DR
[17:28] <mgarcesMZ> if DC goes down, I have reads
[17:28] <mgarcesMZ> thats what I need
[17:28] <infernix> if your latency is low enough, you can do a crush map config where you add "datacenter > rack > host > osd" and if you set that up correctly it will replicate for you
[17:29] <infernix> but it will be (near-)realtime replicated across both sites so if you need time-delayed disaster recovery then you probably don't want that
[17:29] <mgarcesMZ> I need the second option
[17:29] <mgarcesMZ> we have a not so good link do DR
[17:29] <mgarcesMZ> 150MB/s I think
[17:30] <infernix> you are using rbd? cephfs? radosgw?
[17:30] <mgarcesMZ> radosgw
[17:32] <infernix> then I would set up 2 ceph clusters on each site, and set up a one-region two-zone radosgw config. then run the DR backup to your main target; when it completes, start radosgw-agent and have it replicate. When that's done, you can start your next DR backup to your main target.

[18:25] <joao> if you lose 3 mons out of 3 you are left with no mons to be elected from
[18:25] <joao> if you lose 1 mon out of 3, you're left with 2 mons (which are a strict majority) that can form a new quorum (one of them being elected the leader)
[18:26] <mgarcesMZ> and if I lose 2 mons ?
[18:26] <joao> if you lose 2 mons out of 3, you're left with just one mon, which is less than a strict majority thus you're in the woods
[18:26] * Concubidated (~Adium@66-87-66-136.pools.spcsdns.net) has joined #ceph
[18:26] <joao> for any given N mons, you always need at least (N+1)/2 mons alive to be able to form a quorum

[18:27] <mgarcesMZ> joao: can I have 3 mons + 3 extra mons, on the osds hosts, but with a different weight?
[18:27] <dmsimard> Oi.
[18:28] <dmsimard> It's saying here that Debian 6 with 2.6.32 is possible with Ceph: http://ceph.com/docs/master/start/os-recommendations/#firefly-0-80
[18:28] <joao> mgarcesMZ, there's no "weight" concept for the mons
[18:28] <mgarcesMZ> for example, it would only elect the extra mons, if 2 out of 3 central mons went down
[18:28] <mgarcesMZ> ok
[18:28] <dmsimard> However, rbd wasn't in the kernel until 2.6.34, is there a standalone module package available somewhere ?
[18:28] <mgarcesMZ> so if I had mons, they will all work together equally
[18:29] <joao> mgarcesMZ, if you have 3 + 3 mons, you can have a quorum as long as only 2 of those mons go down
[18:29] * julian (~julian@222.211.124.191) Quit (Quit: Leaving)
[18:29] <joao> mgarcesMZ, it depends on what you mean by "work together equally"
[18:29] <mgarcesMZ> but 3 + 3 mons its 6 mons??? 7/2 = 3.5
[18:29] <joao> it's true to some extent for elections, although elections are won based on predetermined ranks that are calculated according to ip:port
[18:30] <mgarcesMZ> if 3 went down, I should still have quorum right?
[18:30] <joao> (lower the ip:port combination, higher the rank; highest rank (i.e., rank 0) gets elected the leader)
[18:30] <joao> no, you need a strict majority; you can't have 3.5 mons
[18:30] * yanzheng (~zhyan@222.64.171.72) has joined #ceph
[18:30] <joao> you can either have 3 mons or 4 mons; you'll need 4 mons alive to form a quorum on a 6-monitor setup
[18:31] <mgarcesMZ> ok, so thats why you need odd number for the mons
[18:31] <ircolle> why would you have a 6 monitor setup?
[18:31] <joao> and this is when someone will tell you that you have no real benefits from having an even-numbered monitor setup

[20:56] <t4nk193> Hi
[20:57] <t4nk193> I'm having a problem with operating my Ceph Storage Cluster through radosgw

[21:10] <t4nk193> infernix: I rewrote ceph.conf with "rgw enable ops log = true," and I'm running a put command now, but /var/log/radosgw/ is still empty
[21:10] <t4nk193> infernix: Do I need to restart something for the change to take into effect?
[21:11] <infernix> t4nk193: maybe restart radosgw
[21:14] <t4nk193> infernix: I restarted it, and it still isn't creating a log for radosgw

[23:45] <t4nk193> Hi, I'm having a problem operating my Ceph Storage Cluster through RadosGW
[23:46] <t4nk193> I can perform list commands using toms3, but I keep running into a 500 Internal Service Error when I try running put commands, even on really small files
[23:47] <t4nk193> I tailed the error log for httpd, and the error is "FastCGI: incomplete headers (0 bytes) received from server "/var/www/html/s3gw.fcgi""
[23:47] <t4nk193> Can anyone help me, please?
[23:47] <t4nk193> I've been stuck for two or three weeks now
