[0:11] <alphe> hello everyone !
[0:12] <kbader> hello!
[0:12] <alphe> anyone knows why my peons monitors time to times stressout and generates 2.4 GB of logs saying that everything is fantastic in the magic world of happy monitors ?
[0:13] <kbader> hard to say without seeing the logs, scrubbing generates logs on a regular basis
[0:14] * xmltok_ (~xmltok@216.103.134.250) has joined #ceph
[0:14] <alphe> kbader there is nothing unusual in the logs ...
[0:14] <kbader> so to be clear, the logs are on the monitors themselves or on the OSD hosts?
[0:14] <alphe> apart that they write the "happy happy happy to be a peon" message every seconds instead of every now and then
[0:15] * clayb (~kvirc@proxy-ny1.bloomberg.com) Quit (Quit: KVIrc 4.2.0 Equilibrium http://www.kvirc.net/)
[0:15] <alphe> kbader the logs are in the monitor /var/log/ceph.mon.id.log
[0:15] <alphe> file
[0:15] * mattbenjamin (~matt@aa2.linuxbox.com) Quit (Quit: Leaving.)
[0:16] <alphe> but the mon service is installed on the same physical machine than 2 osd
[0:16] <kbader> ahh ok
[0:16] <alphe> in the log there is nothing else than the regular message
[0:16] <alphe> no error no wild stuff
[0:17] <alphe> it just that it traps a thousand "i m happy to be happy and alive and a peon in this fantastic world" like a thousand time per minutes
[0:17] * Underbyte (~jerrad@pat-global.macpractice.net) Quit (Quit: Linkinus - http://linkinus.com)
[0:18] <alphe> there is no explicit limitations for log in my ceph.conf
[0:18] <kbader> so your just seeing an increase in log velocity at certain times of the day?
[0:18] <alphe> so I assume that can be why sometimes the monitor is super verbose
[0:18] <alphe> kbader yes ...
[0:18] <kbader> or are you having issues at the same time?
[0:19] <alphe> kbader health_ok
[0:19] <alphe> so yes then the consequencies of that monitor service being super verbose is that the whole machine goes slower ...
[0:20] * AfC (~andrew@2407:7800:400:1011:2ad2:44ff:fe08:a4c) has joined #ceph
[0:20] <kbader> gotcha
[0:20] <alphe> and that the 5GB partition is filled up pretty fast
[0:20] <alphe> and so I goes in health_warn mon.3 only 24% disk space left
[0:21] * sleinen (~Adium@77-58-245-10.dclient.hispeed.ch) has joined #ceph
[0:22] <alphe> but initially there is nothing justifying the hyper verbosity of the log records
[0:22] <kbader> well, you'll probably have to see what kinds of messages are increasing in velocity
[0:22] * ssha637_ (~ssha@en-279303.engad.foe.auckland.ac.nz) Quit (Quit: Leaving)
[0:23] * sarob (~sarob@nat-dip32-wl-f.cfw-a-gci.corp.yahoo.com) has joined #ceph

[0:23] <alphe> B avail; 54005 kB/s wr, 125 op/s
[0:23] <alphe> only that is shown ...
[0:23] <alphe> and it s a ton of it
[0:24] <kbader> is the pg map epoc incrementing each time?
[0:24] <kbader> pgmap v104006 <??? that thing
[0:24] <alphe> yes
[0:24] <alphe> all is normal
[0:24] <alphe> all is fine
[0:25] <alphe> and suddently "hey big boss ! we have a 2.5 GB log file can you clean it up please?"
[0:27] <alphe> since I cleaned up my /var/log/ceph files
[0:27] <kbader> Yeah, I use pretty aggressive log rotation on my ceph clusters
[0:27] <alphe> the ceph-files have only grown up of 520Ko and that is the whole day
[0:27] <kbader> Hourly run logrotate and rotate /var/log/ceph/* at 200MB
[0:28] <alphe> kbader but since I deleted the files the only one that was recreated is /var/lib/ceph/ceph.log
[0:29] * sleinen (~Adium@77-58-245-10.dclient.hispeed.ch) Quit (Ping timeout: 480 seconds)
[0:30] <kbader> well if your willing to wait for it again and post some logs somewhere I'll take a peek

[0:32] <alphe> 2.4GB of logs that is quite something to upload hehehe
[0:32] <alphe> times to times I have a 4 to 5 pgs scrubing
[0:32] <alphe> but no pgs fault
[0:33] <alphe> so I interpreted that like a equilibration interchange betwin nodes
[0:33] <kbader> welp, text compresses well so if you decide to - ill look
[0:33] <alphe> you knows the well we are idle doing nothing lets see if we can make all the osds on par
[0:34] <alphe> ok thank you kbader
[0:35] <alphe> ceph has some weird stuff happening in my deployement ...
[0:35] <alphe> for example out of nowhere the system partition goes read only the mon on the node crash
[0:36] <alphe> since it is a slave mon there is no real impact but I try to reboot the node and the os just don t boot
[0:36] <kbader> how many mons do you have?
[0:36] <alphe> like " bad block is bad so please go manual and reinstall me"
[0:36] <alphe> kbader 3
[0:40] <alphe> kbader 3 mons
[0:40] <alphe> and that happends on the 3 mons with some days span in betwin
[0:40] <alphe> and that happends on the 3 mons with some days span in beetwin
[0:40] <alphe> first mon1 then mon2 then mon3...
[0:41] <alphe> each time full reinstall and restart with the saved data from /var/lib
[0:41] <alphe> each time full reinstall and restart with the saved data from /var/lib/ceph

[0:43] * japuzzo (~japuzzo@ool-4570886e.dyn.optonline.net) Quit (Quit: Leaving)

[2:55] <sherry> I got this error: [ceph_deploy][ERROR ] ConfigError: Cannot load config: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: 'ceph.conf' when I try to do ceph-deploy mon create ceph-node1, anybody knows why ceph.conf has not been created after ceph-deploy install ceph-node1
[2:59] <JC1> have you checked your current directory or /etc/ceph to tell it's missing?
[3:00] <JC1> Second question: Is this a cluster expansion or a new cluster your are creating?
[3:01] <JC1> Asking this as the ceph.conf file gets created during the ceph-deploy new host1 host2 host3 command which is the initial phase.
[3:03] <sherry> yes right, apparently /etc/ceph only contains rbdmap, there is one cluster called ceph-node1 that I created
[3:04] * LeaChim (~LeaChim@host81-159-251-38.range81-159.btcentralplus.com) Quit (Ping timeout: 480 seconds)
[3:04] <JC1> You must run the ceph-deploy mon create from the directory where you ran the ceph-deploy new host1 host2 command as the ceph.conf file gets created in the current directory
[3:04] <dmick> sherry: the command sequence is "install" to instlal the packages, "new" to create a cluster, then "mon create" to create mons
[3:04] <dmick> you need to read the instructions carefully
[3:05] * angdraug (~angdraug@64-79-127-122.static.wiline.com) Quit (Quit: Leaving)
[3:05] <JC1> Correct. Install to install the packages, then new to create the cluster, then mon create

[19:07] * dis is now known as Guest437
[19:07] <bcat> id= allows each image to use a different Ceph client id, which allows per-client configuration for each image (including things like permissions, log settings, rbd cache settings, etc.) The full client name will be ???client.??? in normal Ceph fashion. (The default id is ???admin???, as usual, for a default client name of ???client.admin???.) - See more at: http://ceph.com/dev-notes/updates-to-ceph-tgt-iscsi-support/#comment-192711

[19:10] <bcat> that's right
[19:10] <kbader1> you will want a entry in the ceph.conf for each client
[19:10] <bcat> oh
[19:10] <kbader1> [client.$(name)]
[19:10] <kbader1> and you can configure per-client rbd caching options there
[19:10] <bcat> but tgtd use rbd backstore
[19:10] <kbader1> right
[19:11] <bcat> so even tgtd use rbd backstore, it still uses ceph.conf for the connection
[19:11] <kbader1> so the tgtadm command you can pass a ceph.conf and the id
[19:11] <kbader1> where the id is the client entry in ceph.conf
[19:12] <bcat> i see~~~
[19:12] <kbader1> http://ceph.com/docs/next/rbd/rbd-config-ref/
[19:12] <bcat> do you think it's safe to reload ceph.conf and won't break the iscsi connections to all mounted servers?
[19:13] <kbader1> so something like this:
[19:13] <kbader1> https://gist.github.com/mmgaggle/8009846
[19:14] <bcat> yes, I've found some example like this, thanks for the link
[19:14] <kbader1> I'm unsure how sensitive iscsi is to that

[19:16] <bcat> and whether it's safe to reload on the osd machine
[19:17] <bcat> I have to say the tgtd daemon with rbd backstore is very stable with a very low load

[19:23] <kbader1> if you have a modern processor crc32 should be accelerated (for checksumming io)
[19:23] <kbader1> which will help tremendously
[19:23] <kbader1> both for rbd and tgtd
[19:26] <kbader1> I wonder if you can injectargs caching settings..

[21:21] <via> is there a way to query an mds for things like number of open files, list them, or other thingsl ike that?
[21:21] <Pedras> ls ?
[21:21] <Pedras> lsof
[21:22] <via> the "query an mds" part being so that it can be done from a machine that isn't using the ceph fs
[21:23] <via> lsof only works for the machine using files
[21:24] <Pedras> I understood but couldn't resist??? technically the mds is queried.. sorry for the humor :)
[21:25] <via> fair enough

[22:18] <nwf> Hey, pardon a somewhat urgent dumb question. Someone tripped over the network cable connecting a cephfs client to the cluster, and the filesystem (client-side) seems hung -- sync and "mount -o remount /media/ceph" are both hung. Is there something I can do to force it to reconnect or am I going to have to reboot?
[22:25] * i_m (~ivan.miro@nat-5-carp.hcn-strela.ru) Quit (Quit: Leaving.)
[22:25] <janos> is it still showing a mount in mount -l?
[22:25] <machete> im having the same trouble with a xen hypervisor with old onboard 10gig ports but i haven't been able to reset the adapters without rebooting the entire box

[22:26] <nwf> 172.16.0.1:6789:/ on /media/ceph type ceph (rw,noatime,name=admin,secret=<hidden>,nodcache)
[22:26] <janos> can you unmount it sorry with the lazy option?
[22:26] <janos> unmount -l /path/to/mount
[22:26] <nwf> There are processes blocked on operations therein; won't that be rather bad?
[22:26] <janos> i have no idea why i typed sorry in there
[22:27] <janos> my son wandered in and distracted me

[22:28] <nwf> For future reference, which of the timeouts in mount.ceph do I want to set to "as close to infinity as I can get"?
[22:28] <janos> i've only used cephfs to test that it works. not sure
[22:28] <nwf> Yeah, I want these to pick up and go again, since the cephfs client is the backing store for an AFS fileserver.
[22:29] <nwf> But it doesn't look like that's happening.
[22:29] <janos> ;(
[22:29] <nwf> Well, time to find out how much data we're losing this time around.

[23:04] <lxo> ugh, dropping the now-useless user.ceph._path attribute from some 2.5Mx4 objects is proving to take quite a while at one rados call per x4 objects. if I bypassed the ceph layer altogether and just dropped the attributes from the osd files, should any ill effects by expected?
[23:07] <lxo> failing that... I wonder if writing some code into the mds or some other rados client make the process significantly faster
