[0:01] <mikedawson> tnt, Machske: yes, the new leveldb monitor code was in 0.58
[0:02] <tnt> Ah well, there you go then :p
[0:05] <mrjack_> is there any fix for slow rbd rm yet for cuttlefish?

[1:18] <Psi-jack> Anyone here ever used openSUSE as a ceph cluster server, or CentOS 6.x (which I know has a pretty old kernel compared to openSUSE).

[1:40] <scuttlemonkey> those systems have been tested with varying degrees of completeness
[1:41] <Psi-jack> Hmmm
[1:41] <Psi-jack> So, looks like ubuntu 12.04 is the most supported
[1:42] <scuttlemonkey> ubuntu >12 will be most solid since that's what ceph gets built on
[1:43] * Psi-jack nods.
[1:43] <scuttlemonkey> a lot of time has been spent on rhel-based systems as well
[1:43] <Psi-jack> Oh?
[1:43] <scuttlemonkey> yeah, stuffed some things in epl
[1:43] <Psi-jack> Ahh, yeah, CentOS 6.3 I see.
[1:43] <scuttlemonkey> and have spent a lot more time testing and hammering
[1:44] * Psi-jack nods.
[1:44] <Psi-jack> But yet barely anything on openSUSE i see.
[1:45] <Psi-jack> Good support, though, just not as thoroughly tested as CentOS 6 or Ubuntu 12
[1:45] <scuttlemonkey> yeah
[1:46] <Psi-jack> Well, I may just go with ubuntu 12.04 LTS for the actual servers, and CentOS 6.4, Debian 7, and Ubuntu 12.04 for clients that utilize it.
[1:47] <Psi-jack> I started to go the route of going 100% Gentoo, but it's just too dang much work to maintain 3 different installation setups. LOL
[1:47] <scuttlemonkey> haha
[1:48] <scuttlemonkey> Gent-ew!
[1:48] <Psi-jack> My main thing was running away from ubuntu, not because of the usual bickering of people claiming it's a newbie's distro... But because of Canonical's outright slap in the face to wayland.
[1:48] <scuttlemonkey> shout if you hit any snags, there are a fair number of folks who have been in here with Cent questions over the last few weeks so I'm pretty confident that we can get you sorted
[1:49] * newbie is now known as Coyo
[1:49] <Psi-jack> heh
[1:49] <scuttlemonkey> yeah, I'm interested to see how the Canonical stuff gets sifted
[1:49] * Coyo shrugs.
[1:49] <scuttlemonkey> curious if there is a plan...or just a bad batch of meth
[1:49] <scuttlemonkey> /ducks
[1:49] <Psi-jack> scuttlemonkey: No worries. My only questions I've had as of late is how plausible it would be to remove a system from my 3-node ceph cluster, change out the hosts's OS, and re-connect it to the cluster with the same version of ceph as the rest of the cluster already uses. Before doing any updates.
[1:50] <Coyo> i'm not a huge fan of canonical. i prefer my debian sid, but the point of linux is choice. i'm not about to take choice away.
[1:50] <Psi-jack> Coyo: heh
[1:50] <scuttlemonkey> psi-jack: as far as I've seen ceph is pretty agnostic of distro
[1:50] <Psi-jack> yeaah.. The company I work for now is 99% Ubuntu-based, while the job I'll be at after this week is all CentOS based.
[1:50] <scuttlemonkey> long as the ceph versions work with each other you should be golden
[1:51] <scuttlemonkey> cool
[1:51] <scuttlemonkey> yeah, for me it's just a matter of what you know
[1:51] <Psi-jack> scuttlemonkey: Yeah, that's what I'm figuring. My idea is to get the hell off of Arch Linux for my ceph servers.
[1:51] <scuttlemonkey> I was hardcore Debian back in the day (moved to it from Slack)
[1:51] <Psi-jack> Because, THEY KEEP BREAKING everything. LOL
[1:51] <scuttlemonkey> but moved to Ubuntu, got used to it, and ended up really liking the operation paradigm
[1:52] <Coyo> centos is surprisingly different from debian. centos, being an unchanged recomplilation of rhel has entirely different approaches to security, package management, and a lot of underlying subsystems and kernel modules
[1:52] <scuttlemonkey> psi-jack: haha
[1:52] <Psi-jack> Eh, it's okay. The only thing I really hate about Ubuntu is upstart.
[1:52] <Coyo> i do want to learn how to use centos and fedora, but have not had the time.
[1:52] <scuttlemonkey> coyo: yeah, it's on the "someday" list :)
[1:52] <Coyo> exactly.
[1:52] <Psi-jack> heh.
[1:52] <scuttlemonkey> aight, time for me to go find an adult beverage and enjoy the sunset
[1:53] <scuttlemonkey> have a good one guys
[1:53] <Psi-jack> I know CentOS, Ubuntu/Debian, and SUSE all like the back of my hand. :)
[1:53] <Coyo> what i have on the "last decade" list is mostly hardware reimplementation, mathematical proving and arm64 architecture reimplementation and specification for open hardware
[1:54] <Coyo> since apparently, i need to redesign the entire freaking internet from the chips and laser up.
[1:54] <Coyo> :/
[1:54] <Coyo> i'm positively ecstatic.
[1:56] <Coyo> things like ceph, owncloud, openstack, and opennic are nice and all, but they should not have been necessary in the first place. all of this functionality should have been implemented as core functionality of the internet protocol stack from the very beginning.
[1:56] <Coyo> and the only way to do that
[1:56] <Coyo> is to throw everything clear out the window
[1:57] <Coyo> anyway, i only glanced here because my client failed to authenticate to nickserv and hilighted at "ubuntu is a newbie distro
[1:57] <Coyo> i'll rant elsewhere. sorry.
[1:57] <mrjack> lol
[2:03] <Psi-jack> I'm betting that Ubuntu 14.04 LTS will have excellent ceph support by the time it's out.

[5:22] <sha> hi there
[5:24] <sha> can any body say - whats going on. We can not see content of rbd on proxmox + ceph. Ceph .logs http://pastebin.com/HudfwiKD these things as something connected?
[5:27] <sha> http://tracker.ceph.com/issues/4348 ?
[5:32] <sha> but we have 0.63 version of ceph...and bug is still live
[5:36] <sha> like domino-style osd crash 1 by 1
[5:42] <jjgalvez> sha: what is your cluster status (ceph -s) like?

[5:48] <sha> we try to restart slow requested OSD`s....problem start again after 15-20 min

[6:35] <sage> sha: the probelm is the incomplete pgs.. 'ceph health detail' to see whic pgids they are, and 'ceph pg <pgid> query' to see why they can't peer

[7:00] <sha> I think all the fault was brokenness OSD. sorry for my English
[7:01] <sage> what happened to the osd? bad disk(s) or something?
[7:03] <sha> how can we fix incomplete pg`s? yes at the moment I can not answer the question that foreshadowed the loss of OSD`s.
[7:04] <sha> it seems bad disk(s)
[7:06] <sage> can you include teh full query output? it looks like the pastebin's only have the second half of the output

[7:26] <sage> osd.10, right.
[7:26] <sha> broken pg on 10 osd?
[7:26] <sha> ok min
