[3:54] <glowell> Hi Alex, I think that's just where the results are collected, but I'll check it out. Thanks.
[3:54] <elder> You'll see this on that page: http://gitbuilder.sepia.ceph.com/gitbuilder-wheezy-deb-amd64/

[3:58] <glowell> That's where I'm starting from. I can for example get to the precise gitbuilder:
[3:59] <glowell> $ ping gitbuilder-precise-amd64.front.sepia.ceph.com
[3:59] <glowell> PING gitbuilder-precise-amd64.front.sepia.ceph.com (10.214.140.102): 56 data bytes
[3:59] <glowell> 64 bytes from 10.214.140.102: icmp_seq=0 ttl=63 time=27.459 ms
[4:00] <glowell> But for wheezy the name doesn't resolve:
[4:00] <glowell> $ ping gitbuilder-wheezy-deb-amd64.front.sepia.ceph.com
[4:00] <glowell> ping: cannot resolve gitbuilder-wheezy-deb-amd64.front.sepia.ceph.com: Unknown host
[4:03] <elder> It's sepia, not front (inside the domain name in the URL)
[4:03] <elder> 'wait
[4:04] <elder> Well I don't know what you're looking for.
[4:04] <elder> I'm telling you about the URL for autobuilder results.
[4:04] <elder> But that may not be what you want.
[4:09] * chutzpah (~chutz@199.21.234.7) Quit (Quit: Leaving)
[4:15] <glowell> elder: I'm not entirely sure myself, but build results don't look right, so I'm trying to find the actual build machine. I can do that for other builds, but the pattern is not holding for wheezy.
[4:16] <elder> OK, sorry, I can't help you with that. Dan would probably be good but unfortunately he's already left.
[4:17] <glowell> Thanks. I may have to bug folks tomorrow.

[12:03] <Qten> wido: i was thinking about using it with cloudstack and running say ocfs/gfsv2 and exporting that as NFS/iscsi
[12:03] <Qten> i see couldstack 4 supports ceph directly however no snapshots which is a bugger
[12:04] <Qten> i'm still trying to figure our if i want to run with openstack or cloudstack tho so thats a plus :)

[12:17] <wido> Qten: It's on my whishlist to implement snapshotting with RBD in CloudStack
[12:18] <wido> problem with CloudStack currently is that whenever it creates a snapshot, it will backup this snapshot to the secondary storage
[12:18] <wido> With qemu-img it tries to "extract" the snapshot out of the RBD image and write it to the Secondary Storage as a Qcow2 file
[12:18] <wido> that doesn't work with RBD, but if it did, think about doing that with volumes of 200GB

[17:48] <alan__> yes
[17:48] <nhm> and spread out over like 3 weeks.
[17:48] <wido> So you changed the IP-Address of the monitor but you didn't change the monmap prior to that?
[17:48] <alan__> i chenge server ip adress
[17:49] <alan__> odd work fine, ceph.conf - ok

[17:51] <alan__> i fine old ip here file /srv/fast_fs/mon.a/monmap/1 and correct it
[17:53] <tren> nhm: How did you have the journal disks hooked into your test setup?
[17:54] <alan__> btrfs
[17:54] <nhm> tren: 3 journals per SSD, each SSD was directly connected to the controller, 1 per miniSAS port.
[17:54] <nhm> The journals were on their own 10GB partitions.
[17:54] <alan__> no, journal on sas
[17:55] <nhm> oh, the SSDs themselves are 6Gb/s SATA
[17:55] <tren> nhm: so in some cases the journal was in sata2 mode then
[17:55] <tren> nhm: like in the arc-1222 case
[17:56] <tren> nhm: also were you on latest firmware for each controller?
[17:56] <tren> nhm: great article, just would love more details on setup, versions, etc :)
[17:57] <wido> alan__: The problem is that the IP-adress in your ceph.conf doesn't match your monmap anymore
[17:57] <wido> did you re-number the whole cluster?
[17:57] <alan__> no, how i can do it?
[17:58] <wido> well, you changed the IP of the monitor
[17:58] <wido> Can you change it back to what it was?

[17:58] <alan__> but i can not use this ip address on server

[17:59] <wido> Ok, so you have to renumber the monitor

[18:02] <PerlStalker> I'm looking at rdb as a back-end for my KVM VMs.
[18:02] <wido> btrfs has copy-on-write snapshots
[18:03] <PerlStalker> We rarely use snapshotting so I'm too worried about that.
[18:03] <wido> So it will work with XFS, but the OSDs will be copying objects around, which is less efficient
[18:03] <PerlStalker> I'm more concerned what happens to the fs if a machine crashes.
[18:03] <wido> Right now XFS seems to be the most stable choice
[18:04] <wido> I've seen btrfs filesystems become unmountable after a power failure

[18:07] <wido> joshd: If you change the IP-Address of a monitor, but didn't change the monmap prior to that
[18:07] <PerlStalker> How well does ceph handle the network dropping out? How can I get the cluster working again when the network comes back?
[18:08] <wido> So the monitor now tries to start, checks ceph.conf and sees the IP is not matching monmap
[18:08] <wido> PerlStalker: That would work just fine, give it some time and it will recover

[18:09] <wido> PerlStalker: that really depends on the number of OSDs you lost during the network failure
[18:10] <joshd> alan__: wido: you can't really change an ip of of monitor - you really need to add a new monitor, and remove the old one - the ips are assumed to be fixed

[18:20] <alan__> yes, its my firs server.
[18:21] <joshd> I think you'd need to start it up with the old ip so you could add more monitors before removing/adding it

[22:22] <joey_> hi, I have a configuration question.
[22:22] <joey_> I have multiple disks in a compute node.
[22:22] <joey_> There is the root disk, which I'm not using for ceph right now.
[22:22] <joey_> then, sdb, sdc, sdd each with a single partition (xfs).
[22:23] <joey_> they are mounted as /ceph /ceph1 and /ceph2 respectively.
[22:24] <joey_> ok, so I'm creating osd directories as: /ceph/osd.x /ceph1/osd.y /ceph2/osd.z
[22:24] <joey_> where I am confused is how to tell ceph that in ceph.conf - I have 'osd data = /ceph/osd.$id'
[22:24] <joey_> but this is not correct as they span the different drives.
[22:25] <joey_> perhaps: /ceph*/osd.$id
[22:26] <joshd> joey_: it doesn't do globbing, but you could name them /ceph0, /ceph1, /ceph2 and just have 'osd data = /ceph$id'
[22:30] <joey_> ok, thanks
[22:30] <joey_> will do
[22:30] <joey_> can I have multiple 'osd data' entries?

[22:40] <tziOm> that is: it prints out "dumped osdmap epoch 201" which breaks json syntax
