[19:42] <fghaas> trying to figure out the details behind "mon osd down out interval", could someone explain this puzzling comment in src/ceph.conf.twoods?
[19:42] <fghaas> "mon osd down out interval = 0 ; 10 minutes"
[19:43] <fghaas> I know a few definitions of zero, but "10 minutes" isn't one I've come across before :)
[19:47] <sjust> fghaas: hmm
[19:47] <sjust> one sec
[19:48] <fghaas> I guess I'm doing it wrong, but grepping the source hasn't been very conclusive either
[19:48] <sjust> ok, it's just wrong
[19:49] <fghaas> ah ok, what's right then? :)
[19:49] <sjust> I think that means that the osd will be marked out as soon as it's marked down
[19:50] <fghaas> ah-hah
[19:50] <sjust> the value is the amount of time in seconds before a down osd is marked out (objects start to recover to other osds when the osd is marked out)
[19:50] <fghaas> right. so is 600 the default?
[19:50] <sjust> looks like 300
[19:50] <sjust> common/config_opts.h
[19:50] <sjust> mon_osd_down_out_interval
[19:51] <fghaas> hm, I thought I had waited 5 minutes ... evidently not, though
[19:51] <sjust> does your config set that value?
[19:52] <fghaas> no, my config uses the default, and I was wondering what that default was :)
[19:52] <sjust> ah
[19:52] <sjust> should be 300
[19:52] <sjust> though there is likely to be a delay before an osd is marked down
[19:53] <fghaas> ok, and continuing along here -- if that time expires and the OSD is in fact marked out, and it does eventually return, would it magically reintegrate itself or would it be shunned?
[19:53] <sjust> fghaas: it should reintegrate itself
[19:53] <sjust> and I think it should be automatically marked up and in
[19:53] <sjust> mon_osd_auto_mark_[in|auto_out_in|new_in] in config_opts.h
[19:55] <gregaf> just a note, looks like a value of 0 in mon_osd_down_out_interval means "don't mark out" (see OSDMonitor::tick)
[19:55] <fghaas> ok, so what happens to PG that was mapped to 2 osds, one of which went down, then out, so the PG got remapped, and then the out osd returns? does that mean we now have 3 replicas?
[19:55] <sjust> gregaf: ah
[19:56] <sjust> fghaas: the pgs will once more remap, once the new osd is brought up to date, the unneeded copy will be deleted
[19:56] <fghaas> gregaf: that still makes the "10 minutes" a lie, doesn't it? :)
[19:56] <gregaf> yeah
[19:56] <fghaas> sjust: ack
[19:57] <sjust> fghaas: hmm?
[19:57] <fghaas> sjust: "roger", "understood", "thanks" :)
[19:57] <sjust> ah, thought that was an expression of dismay
[19:58] <fghaas> quite the contrary. I use "argl" for that purpose
[19:58] <sjust> gotcha

[20:42] <spikebike> oops, sorry
[20:50] <lxo> odd, odd. scrub reported an incorrect clone count for pg 3.3 (13/26); master and one replica had 13 objects within 3.3_[234]/, another replica had only 10; pg repair 3.3 repaied the incorrect count, did not copy the missing objects from that one replica, and now scrub passes although the objects are missing. what gives?

[23:19] <sjust> lxo: what is your replication level?
[23:30] <lxo> 3
[23:31] <lxo> sjust ^
[23:37] <sjust> lxo: currently that pg's 3 replicas have different contents?
[23:53] <lxo> only one of them was different. by now I made them all the same
