[10:58] <jantje_> can I see where my bottlenecks are? anything usefull we can do with the stats?
[11:39] <wido> jantje_: you mean in terms of speed?
[11:39] <wido> read or write?
[11:39] <wido> You could try to bench your OSD's, see the Troubleshooting page in the Wiki
[12:19] <jantje_> yea, i know, but I'm just wondering if I could make any usefull use of the stats/
[12:20] <jantje_> it's growing to hundreds of megabytes

[19:02] <sagewk> jantje_: the stats stuff was in there original to make pretty graphs for academic papers. it's useful, but only somewhat. it can be turned off with 'logger = false' in the conf
[19:19] * Yoric (~David@dau94-10-88-189-211-192.fbx.proxad.net) has joined #ceph
[19:19] <wido> sagewk: about stats, is there anything like "ceph fs stat" ?
[19:19] <wido> I'm trying to make a better Zabbix template, I can get most info with "ceph osd|mon|mds stat"
[19:20] <wido> but nothing about the usage, ceph -s is a but unrelaible
[19:20] <sagewk> 'ceph pg stat dump' gets you most of it
[19:21] <wido> yes, but the problem is, the format is always different, depending on the cluster state
[19:33] * yehudasa_hm (~yehuda@ppp-69-228-129-75.dsl.irvnca.pacbell.net) has joined #ceph
[19:37] <cmccabe> wido: it's true that most of the stat commands are designed to be human readable
[19:37] <cmccabe> wido: we could potentially add some kind of cephtool command that dumped a bunch of CSV data or something
[19:39] <cmccabe> wido: one command we added was ./ceph health, which is designed to say healthy, warning, or bad (only 3 outputs and some free-form text)
[21:03] * yehudasa_hm (~yehuda@ppp-69-228-129-75.dsl.irvnca.pacbell.net) Quit (Ping timeout: 480 seconds)
[21:04] <wido> cmccabe: that would be usefull, CSV for an example would be easy to parse with bash
[21:04] <wido> so you can pipe the data to SNMP, Zabbix, Nagios or whatever
[21:05] <wido> how many OSD's are up, down, in, out, cluster utilization, percentage of degradation
[21:26] * alexxy[home] (~alexxy@79.173.81.171) Quit (Remote host closed the connection)

[21:58] <darkfader> can you add the ceph health command to the monitoring part in wiki?
[21:58] <darkfader> i'd have to reinstall my lab boxes to make ceph work again and i'm not gonna do that soon
