[17:20] <greglap> Led_Zeppelin: sorry nobody got back to you earlier, we're pretty quiet on the weekends
[17:21] <greglap> yeah, you can run Ceph on ext3 and it should work fine, although I'm not sure what the state of failure recovery is on ext3

[20:14] <klooie> hi.
[20:14] <sagewk> klooie: hi
[20:15] <sagewk> klooie: i pushed a fix for that 32bit file offset wrapping issue, but don't have a 32bit machine handy to test. have you tried the latest code?
[20:15] <klooie> ah!
[20:15] <klooie> no, i will do that.
[20:16] <sagewk> klooie: http://tracker.newdream.net/issues/392
[20:16] <klooie> thanks.
[20:16] <klooie> sage, i was just trying to find some guidance on how many pgs to use.
[20:17] <klooie> it seems important to get it at least sort of right given remaining issues with pg splitting?
[20:17] <sagewk> currently, yes.
[20:17] <klooie> i'd like to use ceph operationally for some non-critical stuff.
[20:18] <sagewk> i'd aim for tens to a hundred pgs per osd
[20:19] <klooie> is having many, say a thousand okay, and then build out to more osds to get to that range?
[20:20] <sagewk> yeah
[20:20] <sagewk> although you may want to reduce pgp_num to something closer to an appropriate pg_num for the _current_ number of osds
[20:22] <klooie> ok, great.
[20:22] <sagewk> that will _place_ a large number of pgs as it would a small number (i.e., with a smaller number of osd pair combinations), but still has the pgs data separated/split out
[20:22] <klooie> do you get to work on ceph full-time?
[20:22] <sagewk> yes ;)
[20:22] <sagewk> there are currently 3 full time devs
[20:23] <klooie> that's wonderful, i spend my days in corporate IT. :)
[20:24] <klooie> oh it's dinner time here, i'll test the 32-bit candidate fix and report soon.
[20:24] <sagewk> ok thanks!
